US Forces Prepare for Major Iran Operations as Strait Tensions Spike

Pentagon planners draft expansive target lists including nuclear sites while Tehran threatens South Korean shipping.

American forces in the region stand prepared to launch major military operations against Iran within 96 hours of receiving an order from President Donald Trump, according to two US officials cited by CNN.

The scope of these impending operations would likely transcend the limits of maintaining the status quo or striking easily reconstituted radars and launchers, reaching instead for a much larger effort, CNN reported. This escalation arrives as Tehran tightens its grip on the Strait of Hormuz, announcing through its Persian Gulf Strait Authority that all shipping belonging to South Korean company Sinokor would face legal action starting November 1, as reported by Fox News.

Current and former US officials speaking to CNN indicate that a major go-order could arrive before the end of the year, likely following the US midterm elections, with target lists encompassing Iranian energy infrastructure, military sites, and nuclear facilities. Meanwhile, Fox News reported that the United States has imposed a naval blockade against ships linked to the Islamic Republic, prompting Gulf producers to rely on dark transits by switching off tanker tracking systems. Regional friction continues to compound as CBS News noted that the US embassy in Baghdad shot down two drones, while British authorities charged two men under the National Security Act for an alleged Iran-linked terror plot targeting RAF Fairford.

Recent US intelligence assessments detailed by CNN reveal that Iran and Houthi forces are taking the threat of renewed attacks seriously and would likely retaliate immediately by targeting American personnel and facilities. Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton warned in an unclassified memo to Secretary of State Marco Rubio that Iranian efforts to target US personnel have reached advanced stages both in the Middle East and abroad.

The White House declined to comment on the prospective military actions.
