Southwark Crown Court Hears Russell Brand Sexual Assault Allegations

As separate trials open at Southwark crown court, Russell Brand denies charges spanning a decade while far-right activist Tommy Robinson faces harassment counts.

Two high-profile trials opened simultaneously at London's Southwark crown court on Tuesday, bringing severe criminal charges against entertainer Russell Brand and far-right activist Tommy Robinson.

The proceedings place two widely known public figures in adjacent dockrooms amidst heavy security and intense media scrutiny, with both defendants denying all allegations against them.

In the first case, a female complainant detailed allegations of rape and sexual assault by 51-year-old Russell Brand during a video-recorded police interview played to the court. Brand faces three charges of rape, three of sexual assault, and one of indecent assault spanning from 1999 to 2009. In the second case, prosecutors played audio recordings and voicemail messages in the trial of Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, known as Tommy Robinson. Robinson, 43, faces two counts of harassment causing fear of violence in 2024 directed at MailOnline journalists Andrew Young and Jacob Dirnhuber following reports about his activities during the Southport riots. "I'm not threatening you with violence or anything like that," Robinson said in a voicemail left for Daily Mail editor Ted Verity. "What I'm promising you is I'll make you famous and your families because that's what you've done to me."

Both trials test the boundaries of accountability for public figures facing serious accusations involving harassment, intimidation, and historical sexual offenses.

Legal proceedings at Southwark crown court are expected to continue through the week as further witness statements and recorded police interviews are presented to the jury.
